Jeffrey Hedberg is to become the next CEO of Mobilink, the Pakistani mobile subsidiary of telecoms group VimpelCom.
VimpelCom CEO Jo Lunder highlighted Hedberg’s “very strong operational telecoms experience with specific experience of emerging markets,” pointing to his previous roles as CEO of Telkom South Africa and of Cell C. He also previously worked as chairman and CEO of Deutsche Telekom USA.
Hedberg succeeds Rashid Khan, who is retiring in August after 14 years in leading positions at Mobilink and Banglalink in Bangladesh.
Mobilink is Pakistan’s largest mobile operator and competes with four other players. It recently received a 3G licence following a long-awaited auction.
