ICT giant Harris Corp has launched a tie-up with Atlas Telecom, the telecoms security provider based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to deliver Middle East-focused satellite intelligence solutions. Called Harris Atlas Systems, the Abu Dhabi-headquartered venture will deliver services including geospatial 3D visualisation and enhanced video management.
Such mission-critical solutions will be offered to both government and commercial customers across the UAE.
“By combining Atlas’ extensive regional knowledge with Harris’ global expertise, we hope the partnership will not only enhance intelligent communications in the region, but also represent a significant step towards creating a more secure UAE,” said Atlas CEO Ahmed Seddiq Al Mutuwaa.
A spokesman for Harris Corp told SatelliteFinance that the group has agreements with many satellite and satellite imagery providers, both within its communications services business, and for its geospatial and related businesses. However, for competitive reasons, he declined to discuss specific relationships.
Among initiatives currently being planned by Harris Atlas is FAME, a video, audio and metadata coding platform that aims to improve situational responsiveness by bringing video analytics and archive capabilities under one source.
According to the group, FAME would enable government and commercial agencies to use the centrally-based unit to sift through large amounts of data to improve security or lower critical infrastructure risks.
Another flagship initiative is a high-resolution, 3D visualisation and mapping service called E-GIS, which will be able to combine multiple types of imagery into composite products.
Harris Corp CEO Howard Lance said: “Harris Atlas’ initiatives extend well beyond the defence and security industries … We see this venture as heralding the start of a long and fruitful partnership, and look forward to building trusted relationships with our customers in the Middle East.”
