Brazilian operator Global Village Telecom (GVT) has been reported as not planning to take part in the country’s upcoming 3G licence auction.
The Brazilian government, through local telecoms regulator Anatel, is set to sell a fourth 3G operating licence later this year, with bidding slated to commence in June.
Brazilian newspaper Ultimo Segundo has quoted GVT president Amos Genish as saying that the telco intends to stick with its core business of fixed-line, pay-TV and internet services, and will therefore not be participating in this summer’s 3G licence auction. Genish added, though, that the operator intends to take part in the 2012 4G technology auction.
