Brazilian broadband and fixed-line provider Global Village Telecom (GVT) is planning to move into the MVNO market, according to local media reports.
The Brasil Economico website reported on Friday that GVT’s VP of marketing and communications, Alcides Troller Pinto, had told them that the company had been in talks with mobile operators.
But he added that the branching out into MVNO was not part of the company’s plan for 2011. Instead, the focus next year will be on geographical expansion, particularly by extending GVT’s services into Brazil’s major cities, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo.
GVT has experienced rapid growth over the last year.
In a presentation to investors in late November with its Q3 2010 figures, GVT announced that its revenue was up 47% year-on-year, while its adjusted EBITDA had grown 56% on the previous year’s figures.
This was despite the fact that GVT had not yet established a strong presence in any of Brazil’s major cities.
GVT is owned by Vivendi, the French media and telecoms group.
