The Guyana government has agreed a US$35m WiMax contract with the Chinese vendor Huawei, according to the Guyana Chronicle Online.
The publication quoted the Guyana president Bharrat Jagdeo as saying that this would allow the country to develop e-government, and link schools and hospitals with new technology.
On December 6, Huawei announced that the Luxembourg-based cellco Millicom had selected it to deploy a long-distance network in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.
Huawei said in its statement that Millicom would be deploying an “All-IP-based multi-country gateway” that would simplify the network architecture and improve the user experience with long-distance or international calls.
