The head of Global Telecom Holding (GTH), Ahmed Abou Doma, will step down from his position on 30 June.
He will be replaced by Vincenzo Nesci, currently chairman of GTH’s Algerian unit Djezzy. Nesci will hold both roles going forward.
The reasons behind Abou Doma’s departure have not been disclosed. It comes just a few weeks after GTH’s parent VimpelCom agreed to sell a 51% stake in Djezzy to Algeria’s sovereign wealth fund for US$2.643bn, ending its long-running dispute with the Algerian government.
Abou Doma first joined GTH in 1998, then known Orascom Telecom Holding, before becoming CEO in 2011.
Cairo-based GTH is present in Algeria, Canada, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Burundi and the Central African Republic.
