The GSMA trade body of mobile operators has appointed Hyunmi Yang, a former executive at Korean telco KT Corp, as chief strategy officer.
Hyunmi Yang was most recently KT Corp’s chief customer officer, and she is credited for being the first female executive in the history of telecoms in Korea.
In her new role, she will be responsible for working with GSMA’s operator members to identify opportunities to advance the development of the mobile industry.
Anne Bouverot, director general of the GSMA, said: “Her experience in Korea, one of the most innovative mobile markets in the world, combined with her experiences from the financial sector, will be invaluable as she works with the GSMA members in defining global strategies, initiatives and programmes that will offer collective benefit for our operator members and the broad mobile industry.”
GSMA’s strategy officer responsibilities were previously held by Alex Sinclair, who remains as chief technology officer of the association.
