The French government is reportedly looking at replacing France Telecom CEO Stephane Richard with the former head of nuclear power multinational, Areva.
France’s La Lettre de L’Expansion reported that the government is working on a plan that would see Anne Lauvergeon, who headed up Areva from 2001 to 2011, take the helm at the French incumbent. According to the report, which did not cite sources, Richard would replace Antoine Frerot as CEO of water, waste and energy company Veolia.
France Telecom has declined to comment on the matter.
The report stated the government’s plan to replace Richard as CEO of France Telecom is linked to the telco’s recent decision to sign a roaming agreement with Iliad’s Free – the local mobile market’s newest entrant.
The government has a 27% stake in France Telecom, is the majority shareholder in Areva and also has shares in Veolia.
