Poland is reportedly looking at ending its auction of 4G spectrum early as bids have crossed the PLN6.6bn (US$1.74bn) mark, more than four times what the auction was expected to raise.
The Ministry of Administration and Digitization plans to change the rules of the auction to ensure it ends after 115 days, as it could currently continue indefinitely, Reuters reported citing local daily Rzeczpospolita.
Already underway for six months, there are fears that the rising prices the operators are pledging will be passed on to consumers resulting in higher bills, the report said.
The ministry did not reply to a request for comment before the press deadline.
T-Mobile and Orange lead the mobile market followed by private equity owned Play and Polkomtel’s Plus.
