France Telecom’s satellite services subsidiary Globecast has acquired video production specialist Technicolor’s Singaporean HD playout facilities for an undisclosed sum.
The deal, which is expected to be finalised by the end of the year, also includes the integration of Technicolor’s staff in the country. On completion of the sale, Technicolor said that it will continue to have a commercial presence in Singapore.
The strategy behind the acquisition is to help drive Globecast’s post-production and creative services expansion in Asia. Globecast has been building up its media asset management and playout services in the region since the company launched an Asian unit earlier this year to acquire and distribute content.
On September 16, the company announced a tie-up with China’s Shanghai Media Group to establish a video fibre link in the country.
Through the link, Globecast plans to provide Chinese customers with access to its international fibre network, which has access points in Asia, America, Africa and Europe.
Olivier Barberot, a former executive vice-president of human resources at France Telecom/Orange, replaced Christian Pinon as chairman and CEO of Globecast at the end of September.
