Philippine operator Globe Telecom is considering entering Myanmar as it explores the possibility of expanding into other Asian markets, according to CEO Ernest Cu.
Speaking during the APEC CEO Summit in China earlier this month, Cu said Myanmar already had telco players but it could get involved in other areas “like financial services and mobile advertising”.
He said: “We will look for white space within ASEAN and Asia on where to leverage the skills we’ve developed overtime and we do think we’ve developed a decent telco business here in the Philippines.
“We have a great team and we’re thinking of ways to leverage that further in emerging economies.”
The comments come as the group’s takeover of local fixed-line telco Bayan is hit by further regulatory delay, following a petition from its main domestic rival, incumbent PLDT.
