Nigerian telecommunications company, Globacom announced that it has won a licence to operate in Gambia just four months after it was awarded one in Senegal.
Globacom said that its latest licence approval was awarded on 12 July. Globacom now hold six operating licences in Africa, including: Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and Gambia.
The Gambian licence will allow Globacom to land its Glo 1 trans-Atlantic submarine cable in Gambia, with opportunities to extend the infrastructure to neighbouring countries. It gives the company the right to carry traffic for major operators, the government and wholesale customers in Gambia.
