A German prosecutor has started investigating Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann, following bribery allegations at some eastern European companies, according to media reports.
Another seven persons are reportedly being investigated too, including non-Telekom employees. Reports explain that Obermann approved the payment of dividends to Macedonian telco MakTel in 2005 on the condition that Macedonia would remain closed to other competitors. MakTel is majority owned by Magyar Telekom, the Hungarian unit of Deutsche Telekom.
According to a statement cited by media reports, Obermann has rejected these allegations as wrong.
