US IP infrastructure developer Genband has agreed to acquire Cedar Point Communications, a specialist in IP switching solutions for cable providers.

US IP infrastructure developer Genband has agreed to acquire Cedar Point Communications, a specialist in IP switching solutions for cable providers.
No terms were disclosed, and the deal is expected to close in January, subject to the required approvals being obtained.
In a statement, Genband said that the deal would strengthen its position in cable VoIP and would add IP switching solutions to its product portfolio.
It added that Cedar Point has 7.5m lines in service around the globe, and that it would add tier 1 customers to Genband’s customer base.
Cedar Point’s customers include US cablecos Comcast, Liberty and Charter.
Genband’s CEO, Charlie Vogt, said in a statement that the acquisition would improve the company’s offering within the high-growth cable market.
He added: “Our combined vision of bring enhanced SIP [Session Initiation Protocol] and multimedia services to the cable market is one of the key drivers for this transaction, particularly as cable operators transition to IP.”
SIP is a standard protocol used for delivering multimedia services over IP.
