British incumbent telco BT has appointed Joe Garner, previously head of HSBC’s UK arm, as CEO of it local access network business Openreach.
Garner will replace Liv Garfield in mid-February when she leaves to join local water utility Severn Trent.
He is credited for helping steer HSBC though the financial crisis in the UK and rebuilding its profitability.
BT Group CEO Gavin Patterson said: “His experience of managing a large regulated business with a substantial workforce will help us as we expand our fibre optic network into rural areas.”
