The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has extended the deadline to submit applications to take part in the auction of frequencies in the 2.6 GHz and 3.5 GHz band to July 30 from June 25.
There are four national licences in the 2.6 GHz band available at a reserve price of R750,000 (E80,000), while for the 3.5 GHz frequencies, two licences, each of 30 MHz, will be issued per district municipalities and metropolitan municipalities areas at a reserve price of R250,000 (E26,668).
Licence holders will be required to cover 50% of the population within two years of the award.
MTN, Vodacom, Cell C, Neotel and Telkom are reportedly interested in the frequencies.
