Former Cablevision COO Thomas M. Rutledge has been appointed as new president and CEO of US cableco Charter. The announcement brings the headhunting process to a close that followed the decision of Michael J. Lovett in October, to leave the company.
Rutledge joins Charter immediately and will become the President and Chief Executive Officer effective 13 February 2012, the company said. He will also become a member of the Charter Board of Directors at that time.
Rutledge, 58, has been Cablevision’s COO since April 2004 until December 2011. In the past, Rutledge also worked as president of Time Warner Cable. He is a board member of the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA), and served as Chairman of the NCTA from 2008-2010.
His predecessor Lovett will remain in his current capacity until 12 February to assist Rutledge in the transition to the new role, Charter said.
