The Federal Communications Commission – the US telecoms regulator – is planning to announce regulations that would make it illegal to favour different types of online content.
According to the Financial Times, the net neutrality rules could be passed by the FCC as early as 15 December. The newspaper claims that this would annoy the newly elected Republican majority in the House of Representatives.
In August, talks on net neutrality broke down between the FCC and the US’ major telephone, cable, television and internet companies.
The FCC was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
