Silvio Scaglia has resigned from the board of Italian broadband operator Fastweb.
Scaglia was arrested earlier this month in connection with the ongoing court case surrounding an alleged E2bn tax fraud.
Top executives from Fastweb and Telecom Italia subsidiary Sparkle are accused of knowingly enabling money laundering to the tune of more than E2bn between 2003 and 2006. A total of 55 people have been arrested.
Fastweb founder Scaglia, who was CEO until 2003 and chairman up to 2007, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing but has now opted to part with the company.
Swisscom, which owns Fastweb, is understood to have accepted Scaglia’s resignation.
