US social networking giant Facebook and Luxembourg-based VoIP operator Skype are in talks over a video calling partnership, according to media reports.
Citing two people familiar with the process, Bloomberg reported on Saturday that Facebook was in talks with Skype over the issue of enabling web video calls.
Reportedly the two companies were also in talks on this issue last year.
The two websites currently offer some interconnectivity. On Skype, users can see their friends’ Facebook news feed and use Skype to call them.
A formal partnership could see a large increase in bandwidth traffic, as web video calls became more accessible to the estimated 600 million Facebook users.
A Facebook spokesperson declined comment on further integration with Skype.
Skype also would not comment on the reports.
