Swedish telco Tele2 has named ex Virgin Media executive Jeff Dodds as the new CEO of its Dutch unit.
Dodds replaces Ernst-Jan van Rooijen who has served as acting CEO since Gunther Vogelpoel stepped down last November for personal reasons. van Rooijen will reassume his role as CFO of Tele2 Netherlands, the parent company said.
Dodds, who will also be EVP of the wider Tele2 Group, has been with Virgin Media, part of John Malone’s Liberty Global (LGI), for the past five years, mostly recently as chief marketing officer. Since last October, he has also acted as an executive strategy consultant, working with LGI and Swedish cableco Com Hem.
Tele2 president and CEO Mats Granryd said the group is confident Dodds will be able “to maximise” the Dutch business – its largest unit outside Sweden – and fulfil its growth potential.
Dodds, who starts his new role on 14 April, described himself as “a huge fan of challenger brands and the benefits they bring to customers”, adding that they often lead the way in terms of innovation and represent value for money.
Traditionally a fixed-line operator, Tele2 Netherlands operates as an MVNO in the Dutch market but is working towards becoming a full mobile network operator. The Netherland’s three MNOs are incumbent KPN and the local units of Vodafone and T-Mobile.
