Everything Everywhere, the mobile phone venture between Orange and T-Mobile, is considering buying UK mobile phone retailer Phones4U, according to The Telegraph.
However, an attempted takeover of the retailer by any mobile operator could hit competition hurdles.
The target’s ten other suitors reportedly include UK consumer electronics retailer Dixon Retail, as well as private equity firms Advent, Blackstone, BC Partners and Hellman & Friedman.
Bridgepoint Capital reportedly expressed interest for the retailer but then decided against bidding. First rounds bids for Phones4U are reportedly expected next Wednesday.
Deutsche Bank is reportedly acting as adviser on the sale.
In 2006, Phones4U was sold by the Caudwell Group to private equity firms Providence Equity Partners and Doughty Hanson for £1.46bn.
In an email to TelecomFinance, Phones4U said it would not confirm or deny any rumours on bids.
