European mobile operators have reportedly called on the EU to protect the fast-growing smartphone market from a duopoly by internet giants Apple and Google.
The CEOs of Vodafone, Telefonica, Telecom Italia, France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom have sent a letter to European digital commissioner Neelie Kroes detailing the concerns, reported the Financial Times.
Although the letter did not single out the operating systems of Apple (iOS) and Google (Android), the report cites a source claiming their growing stranglehold of the market as a reason for the call.
