UAE operator Etisalat is planning to enter a further six markets in the Middle East and North Africa, according to the company’s chairman.
Mohammed Omran was quoted saying that ‘Etisalat is currently participating or investigating opportunities across North Africa and the Middle East’.
According to Omran, who was speaking at the 3GSM event in Barcelona, both acquisitions and greenfield licence opportunities were being considered.
Libya, Syria and Iraq are all known to be markets of interest for Etisalat, while it is also rumoured to be interested in buying Orascom’s Algerian mobile operator Djezzy.
Etisalat recently postponed its debut bond issue as it did not currently require the funds.
