Indian mobile operator Etisalat DB, which lost its 2G licences following the Supreme Court’s verdict on the 2G scam, has said it will suspend its operations by 31 March 2012.
In a brief statement on its website, the company, which operates under the Cheers Mobile brand, advised its customers to transfer their mobile number to another operator before it closes its network.
At the end of February, Etisalat DB had already said it would suspend its network without giving a precise timeline.
Etisalat DB, which is partly controlled by UAE-based telco Etisalat, is one of the smallest operators in India with approximately 1.6 million customers.
In early February, Etisalat wrote down investments worth AED3.044bn (US$829m) on Etisalat DB because of the licence cancellation.
