Swedish equipment vendor Ericsson announced today that its chairman, Michael Treschow, will resign in 2011 or 2012.
Since becoming chairman of Ericsson in March 2002, Treschow has overseen a period of strong growth for the company, which now claims to have 40% of the mobile infrastructure market.
Treschow is also the chairman of Unilever, with other board positions at engineering company ABB and the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation, which finances research in Sweden.
In a statement, Treschow said that the firm has an “exciting future” ahead, particularly with the development of mobile broadband.
But he added that “taking into account [Ericsson’s] strong market and financial position, it is now the right time to hand over to a successor after nine years in this position”.
Ericsson’s board will put forward a new chairman for the board in the annual general meeting of 2011 or 2012.
