Swedish vendor Ericsson has agreed to acquire Canadian Wi-Fi technology specialist BelAir Networks for an undisclosed sum.
At a press event today in London, Ericsson’s CMO, Arun Bhikshesvaran said that the acquisition would provide “good traction” with BelAir customers like AT&T and Comcast, as well as allowing potential use for backhaul with small cells.
Ericsson expects to close the deal in the first half of 2012.
Ottawa-based BelAir has approximately 120 employees. They will join Ericsson as part of the deal.
The company provides small cell wireless systems to fixed-line and mobile operators. Its customers include other major US cablecos like Time Warner Cable and BrightHouse Networks.
