Private equity firm EQT Partners is thought to be close to acquiring Finnish vendor Nokia’s luxury brand Vertu.
Nokia, which has been stripping non-core assets as part of its turnaround strategy, has hired Goldman Sachs to manage a sale that is expected to fetch around €200m.
It is understood that EQT’s private equity rival Permira was at one point closely evaluating Vertu, which manufactures luxury mobile phones using precious metals. However, Permira disengaged in May, and EQT has now entered into exclusive talks with Nokia for the unit.
EQT, Nokia, and Permira were unable to comment on the market rumours.
