British communications infrastructure firm Arqiva could be the beneficiary of a €258m (US$351m) loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
The EU lender’s board is appraising a proposal for the company to borrow the money through a risk sharing finance facility to fund a number of network deployments.
Under the project, valued at €522m (US$710m), Arqiva plans to improve its wi-fi telecoms infrastructure, and television and radio coverage, while also building a wireless smart metering platform for energy companies.
The EIB added that as the financing is yet to be approved, elements of the proposal could change.
