Egypt is unlikely to offer a second fixed-line licence and a fourth mobile licence before 2013, Reuters reports quoting the telecoms minister in local press.
Tarek Kamel reportedly told daily newspaper al-Mal that the sale of a second fixed-line licence had lost its economic merit in light of the current fall in fixed-line users.
State-owned Telecom Egypt currently has a monopoly on fixed-line services, while Mobinil – owned by France Telecom and Orascom Telecom, Vodafone Egypt and Etisalat Egypt share the mobile market.
