Greek telecoms regulator EETT has launched a public consultation on liberalising spectrum in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands, with a closing date of 4 February 2011.
The consultation will cover the removal of technology restraints on these spectrums and granting 900MHz UMTS licences with local mobile operator Wind Hellas and Vodafone Greece’s existing 2G licences, according to reports translating a Greek statement.
Wind Hellas and Vodafone’s current 2G licences are due for renewal by September 2012, and the terms are set to be finalised by the end of 2011 in a move that will raise more than E300m for the Greek government, reported Suite101.com.
