Ecuadorian mobile operator Alegro PCS is to be integrated into fellow stated owned telco Corporacion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT), the Ecuadorian government has confirmed.
CNT was formed when two Ecuadorian fixed line operators Andinatel and Pacifictel were merger and Alegro now also be added to enable the company to offer a wider range of services.
Reports had emerged earlier this month that the government may merge its telecoms operations, after the country’s president Rafael Correa in January of this year told Alegro that it had to reduce losses, which are said to have surpassed US$200m.
