The European Commission has launched its merger control investigation into the takeover of infrastructure provider GTS Central Europe by Deutsche Telekom.
According to a notice on the EC website, the deadline for the initial phase I investigation is 15 April 2014.
At the end of this period the Commission can clear the transaction or open an in-depth phase II investigation which would extend the deadline by a further 90 working days.
If Deutsche Telekom decides to offer remedies during phase I to address potential antitrust concerns, the 15 April deadline would be pushed back by 10 working days.
Telekom sealed the €546m (US$730m) acquisition of GTS in November last year to boost its fixed line infrastructure in the CEE region.
GTS has activities in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania. The sellers will retain GTS’ Slovak assets.
