Africa-focused Eaton Towers has appointed Jimmy Eisenstein as its new non-executive chairman, replacing co-founder Sanjiv Ahuja who will stay on as director.
Eisenstein helped found towerco giant American Tower in 1995 and was responsible for acquisitions and development, according to an Eaton statement.
Since retiring from American Tower in 2004, Eisenstein has been a founder and CEO of several wireless companies, including Concourse Communications, Optasite and, since 2010, Brazilian tower operator Grupo TorreSur.
Eaton claims to own more than 5,000 towers across seven African countries. In early September, it agreed to buy around 3,500 sites in six nations from Bharti Airtel for about US$500-700m.
The towerco’s shareholders include Capital Group Private Markets, DPI and management.
