US ISP Earthlink announced today that it was planning to acquire telco One Communications (One Comm) for US$370m.
The deal will include paying off about US$285m of One Comm’s debt. The deal has been approved by the boards of both companies, as well as One Comm’s stockholders.
One Comm provides voice and data services to over 110,000 small and middle-sized businesses in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic and upper Midwest areas of the US.
Earthlink said in a statement that it planned to integrate One Comm into its new business division. After the transaction was closed, it will have an IP network that spans approximately 28,000 route miles and 27 states.
The acquisition of One Comm comes after Earthlink completed its takeover of the regional carrier ITC Delta Comm earlier in December.
Earthlink’s chairman and CEO, Rolla P.Huff, said: “The acquisition of One Communications is a significant development in further transforming Earthlink into one of the largest IP services companies in the US.”
