US IP infrastructure provider EarthLink has completed its acquisition of IT managed services company Business Vitals for an undisclosed fee.
In a statement yesterday, EarthLink said that the acquisition would provide it with a new data centre, as well as a “broad set of security-centric IT outsourcing solutions”.
EarthLink’s executive VP of managed services, Brian Fink, said that EarthLink is building a full range of managed IT services that focus on security as a key capability.
“Business Vitals is an important extension of our managed services portfolio, and we will be actively leveraging the assets, capabilities and proven expertise we have acquired to enhance our national managed services business,” he said.
EarthLink also said that Jeff Brewer, the CEO of Business Vitals, will join EarthLink as its VP of IT solutions and security.
EarthLink has made several other acquisitions recently.
In April, it completed its US$370m acquisition of the business-focussed ISP and telco One Communications.
In March, it acquired the Florida-based IP network provider STS Telecom, while in December 2010 it acquired the regional carrier ITC^Deltacom (which operated predominantly in the south-eastern US) in a deal valued at approximately US$524m.
EarthLink released its Q2 results on 28 July. These showed net income of US$6.55m for the quarter, down from US$28.04m for Q2 2010. The company now has over 28,000 fibre route miles, with over half of this fibre being in the south-eastern US.
