Greek telco OTE has named Nikolai Beckers, formerly of the Deutsche Telekom group, as the new CEO of Romanian businesses Romtelecom and Cosmote Romania.
Beckers, who takes up his new role on 1 April, was previously CEO of Deutsche Telekom ICT subsidiary T-Systems France. Beginning his career at Deutsche Bank in 1989, Beckers has since held several management and executive positions within the group, including CEO of Deutsche Telekom France, managing director of Deutsche Telekom Philippines and financial director of T-Online France.
The current CEO of the Romanian units, Stefanos Theocharopoulos, is set to move to Greece, where he will become OTE group chief technology and operations officer.
OTE CEO Michael Tsamaz said he is confident Beckers will ensure the Romanian units continue to progress “at the same pace”.
“With a long and successful track record within Deutsche Telekom Group, Nikolai Beckers comes to Romania, bringing valuable experience from international markets,” he said.
Tsamaz also thanked Theocharopoulos for his work at the Romanian units.
“Stefanos’ contribution [to] the rapid growth of Cosmote Romania and Romtelecom’s turn-around towards a modern and profitable organisation has been pivotal.”
Greek incumbent OTE is 40% owned by its German counterpart, Deutsche Telekom.
