German incumbent Deutsche Telekom (DT) may decide to sell its Dutch or UK business in 2013, according to a report in Financial Times Deutschland. The article referred to unnamed company insiders.
But a favoured option to a potential sale is to improve the profitability of the units, and the parent company has given management until 2013 to do so.
With reference to unnamed banking sources, the article said the Dutch unit would have a value of between €2bn and 3bn.
A London based telecoms banker commented, speaking to TelecomFinance, that DT was looking at a number of options to improve its financial position following the failed sale of T-Mobile US in late 2011. But a sale of the US tower assets is the most feasible scenario, the banker said.
A spokesperson for Deutsche Telekom declined to comment on the report.
