A government advisory panel chose Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo over rival KDDI to operate multimedia digital broadcasting for mobile handsets, according to media reports.
Although the final decision rests with communications Minister Kazuhiro Haraguchi, DoCoMo is now expected to be the winning bidder for the project, the reports wrote. The group led by DoCoMo is reportedly offering less expensive programs, unlike KDDI, which adopted US technologies.
Multimedia broadcasting in Japan is expected to begin in 2012, delivering multimedia content to mobile devices.
