Digicel, the mobile operator, has refused to comment on a media report that the company is part of a US$270m (€202m) group bid for LAP GreenN, the Libyan state owned network operator.
The Irish Times said with reference to unnamed informed sources that Digicel was the member of a consortium bidding for a majority stake in the company.
According to the report British Levant Group and Greek Demco acquired a 65% stake in LAP GreenN in a transaction that is still awaiting approval by the EC and the UN Security Council.
Those buyers proposed to Digicel to run the business, although the stake Digicel would take in LAP GreenN in return is unknown, the article states.
A spokesperson for Digicel refused to comment on the media report.
According to the company website, LAP GreenN is owned by Libya’s state owned Africa Investment Portfolio. The company operates in seven African countries including Rwanda, Zampia, Niger, and Sierra Leone.
