Irish-owned regional operator Digicel announced yesterday that it had taken a controlling stake in the Caribbean systems integrator Netxar Technologies.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Netxar is based in Puerto Rico and also operates in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago.
In a statement, the COO of Digicel Group, Kevin White, said: “This will see us increasing our ICT presence across the Caribbean and Central America and offering customers a broader and deeper product portfolio backed by Digicel’s award-winning customer service.”
Digicel would not reveal the precise amount it paid for Netxar, as it is a private company.
But a spokeswoman did reveal that it was a “relatively small transaction for us”. She said it was financed through existing resources and that Digicel did not use advisers for the transaction.
