Accounting and consultancy firm Deloitte has launched a new division to provide analytical coverage for the geospatial sector.
Matthew Gentile, former CEO of geospatial analytics firm Traverse Technologies, which has also come under the Deloitte umbrella, will lead its team to explore where geospatial analytics can support federal agencies.
According to Deloitte, geospatial data is becoming an increasingly important tool for governments, from improving intelligence services to helping manage national resources.
“Now more than ever, public and private sector endeavours rely on geospatial data, technology and knowledge, for improving decision making in organisations,” said Gentile.
The Office of Management and Budget recently issued an updated guidance to federal agencies on geospatial data acquisition, recommending greater collaboration over sharing data. In the wake of large scale incidents such as Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the US government is keen to better utilise geospatial data derived form satellites.
