Romanian cable operator Digital Cable Systems (DCS), which operates under the ‘Akta’ brand, has received a €15m (US$19.7m) loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The funding is aimed at supporting DCS’ expansion of its cable TV and broadband internet services in Romania.
“While the cable TV and broadband market is highly competitive in Romania’s large cities, the rural areas remain underserved,” stated Alain Pilloux, EBRD managing director for industry, commerce, and agribusiness.
“This project will help address this regional divide and will give a boost to competition in smaller towns and activities,” he added.
Founded in 2005, DCS is controlled by private equity firm PineBridge New Europe Partners, in which the EBRD is a limited partner.
The company provides television, internet, and phone services.
