BSNL, India’s largest state-run telecom company, has appointed Gopal Das as its new chairman and managing director. Das will replace Kuldeep Goyal, who is retiring at the end of the month.
Das is currently a board director with BSNL. Once he takes the helm he will face numerous problems as BSNL is financially challenged, is experiencing falling market share in the face of aggressive competition from the private telecommunications sector and has to answer charges of corruption and mismanagement.
