Mobile operator Telefonica O2 Ireland has announced that Stephen Shurrock, the company’s consumer sales director, will replace Danuta Gray as CEO on December 1.
Gray, who has led the Irish operator for nine years, will leave the Board of Telefonica Europe on November 30. She will take up a part-time non-executive chairman role at O2 Ireland, as well as an advisory role within Telefonica Europe working under CEO Matthew Key.
“I am delighted that she has agreed to continue as part time non-executive chairman in Ireland and I look forward to working with her in an advisory capacity on a number of projects across Telefonica Europe where we will benefit from her considerable expertise, passion and experience,” said Key.
“This is a great opportunity for Stephen and I’m delighted that we have been able to promote from within the Group. Stephen’s appointment underlines our commitment to Ireland and the ongoing success of our business.”
Shurrock joined O2 in 2000, and has held a number of senior sales and finance roles, including head of commercial finance for Telefonica O2 UK.
