Regional operator Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) announced on Friday that its subsidiary LIME had completed the installation of an undersea cable system linking the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and the British Virgin Islands.
CWC said in a statement that the system would triple available bandwidth and reduce interconnection rates in the Dominican Republic, which it called “a key market in the region”.
The announcement comes after several other moves to increase cabling to Caribbean islands.
This new cable is the third built in the region by LIME since 2008. Alcatel-Lucent is also currently laying a cable connecting Cuba to Venezuela.
