The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) has announced that it is raising a £200m (US$315m) fund to help with the development of information and communication technologies in the developing world. The CTO is an international development partnership between the Commonwealth (or ex-British Empire colonies and dependencies) and non-Commonwealth governments, business and civil society organisations.
The funds would be used for investing in “profitable ICT projects in emerging markets,” said Ahmad Zia Mian, director general of Jamaican telecoms regulator, who was elected to the CTO council’s six-person executive committee.
