Colombia has announced the winners of an auction of 25 MHz of spectrum in the 1900MHz band for US$ 79.9m.
5Mhz of band A were allocated to Colombia Movil (Tigo) and Communication Celular (Comcel) each, while Telefonica Moviles Colombia (Movistar) won 5MHz in the D band, and 10MHz in the E band.
5MHz remained unassigned.
The auction is part of the government’s spectrum allocation policy plan, which, according to the Colombian telecommunications ministry website, seeks to promote the entry of new operators and the allocation of more resources to existing operators.
The maximum spectrum allocated to a single operator in the country is 50Mhz.
