Mintel, the Ecuadorian information, communications and telecoms ministry, has confirmed the completion of the merger between state-owned mobile operator Alegro and state-owned telco CNT. CNT has set aside US$70m for the first stage of investment in the mobile company, with the upper limit set at US$120m, local newspaper La Hora reported. Alegro currently operates a CDMA network and also offers GSM technology through an agreement with local operator Movistar. The operator expects to launch a bidding process soon to select a company to deploy an HSPA+ network, as previously reported in TelecomFinance.
