China Unicom, a Hong Kong based mobile operator, is reported to be planning to spend Yn70bn (US$10.4 billion) expanding its 3G network in China in 2011.
The company, ranked as the third biggest mobile operator in the world, spent Yn110bn (US$16.3bn) in 2009 launching its 3G network across China.
Last month, the company reported a 62% slump in its first half profits as the costs of deploying its 3G network and subsidising handsets cut into earnings.
Representatives from China Unicom were not available for comment at the time of going to press.
